Orthodontics Q&A

What are traditional metal braces?

When many patients think of traditional metal braces, they're thinking of something very different than today's reality. Today, the only traditional thing about metal braces is that you can see them. At George Family Dental Care, certified orthodontist Dr. George uses the most technologically advanced metal braces available.

The metal is made from ultra strong metal alloys derived from those used in the United States space program. Because the metal is so strong, the braces themselves can be smaller than they've ever been in the past. This means more comfortable than metal braces have traditionally been in the past.

The density of the metal braces used at George Family Dental Care allows for ultra slippery movement. This, in turn, means that teeth can now be adjusted and aligned faster than they could with previous versions of metal braces.

When today's metal braces are combined with the high tech materials and treatments available at George Family Dental Care, patients have quicker treatment and fewer office visits.

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment designed to fix mild to moderate spacing problems, and can also help correct:

  • Small gaps
  • Crowded teeth
  • Protruding teeth
  • Overbites
  • Underbites
  • Crossbites

This advanced system uses a series of clear plastic aligner trays to straighten your teeth over time.

Invisalign’s unique aligners are removable, which means you can take them out before you eat or brush your teeth. The trays are also clear, so it’s not so obvious when you’re wearing them.

When is the right time to get braces or other orthodontic treatments?

The right time to get braces or other orthodontic treatments can be different for every patient. Children who have overcrowding or teeth misalignment may need to start seeing an orthodontist as early as age seven. Dr. George is happy to provide an orthodontic evaluation for patients of any age. Many children get braces or other orthodontic devices in the preteen or early teen years, but this varies by patient need. Adults who are unhappy with the alignment and overall appearance of their teeth can also begin orthodontic treatment, regardless of their age.
